Matariki- Maori New Year

Hi Everyone,

It has been a fair while since my last blog post - life has been busy, busy, busy this week. This time i wanted to share about our special Matariki celebration at preschool. Matariki is the Maori new year and is celebrated on the 22 June. Every year at our preschool the children put on a concert for their families and its always a joy to watch. They all get dressed up in Maori costume and with moko to match! They practise hard for weeks before the big day learning all the songs and actions and those poi movements! They did so well! After that we share some kiwi kai for lunch and have a good catch up! Lucy was asked if she would like to come and star in the concert too- naturally she said yes- she didn't want to miss out! I cleared it with Lucy's school teacher and as long as she was back for the school Hangi at lunch time it was all go!!

Please note that this will be a VERY long and heavy photo post for all my friends and family to see Lucy and Hollie in action so if you are a scrapbooker - tune in for some scrap related posts in a few days! i have some exciting news to share too about a special day in August!

Anyways here are some photos and a video of one of the songs that they performed!!

Hope you have had a great weekend- we had our Mid Winter Xmas and a great day at Victoria park today but will share those photos later!
