Remembering feb 22 -2011

Well it sure was a busy day on Wednesday... my blogger wasn't working for some reason on that day - as i wanted to do a post about the anniversary of the earthquake- but now that it has been and gone- i'll just say that it was a very sad day as expected....

Lucy and Hollie had a shared lunch at preschool and a remembrance time- they had to wear red and black too which was nice. I thought that school may have done something but apparently not... We all went to the community event at the local school- it was nice to see so many people there- hundreds- the girls had a blast catching up with friends and having a go on all the diggers and bouncy castles etc... there was free food and drink and icecreams and a special ceremony. Some of the crusaders were there and the local MP spoke and the local church and the other sponsor GOUGH group.  A special tree was planted and a new local celebrity on you tube performed his song which was brilliant. We had seen it on You tube before so it was nice to see him in person and talk to him afterwards- i'll try and add the ;link....definitely worth the watch for a giggle...

Christchurch City- my Home Town

I liked that the anniversary had its serious moments but that people were hopeful and wanting to move forward now... life has to go on... i didn't want to put any photos of the destruction on as everyone has seen those a million times already but these photos summed up the day for me- its not the buildings but the people who matter....

This year will be one of moving forward and rebuilding this great city into something that was even better than before...

I loved that everyone remembered the day in their own way too. It sure is about the people.

I'm so glad to hear you and your family found your own special way to remember the 22nd Feb. It certainly was a long and emotional day. Here's to a year of moving on :)
